Re: Update on 2020 Football Season
I wanted to take an opportunity to provide all of you with an update on the status of the 2020 football season. Despite a great deal of misinformation which appears to be circulating on social media, THE KFL BOARD FULLY INTENDS AND EXPECTS TO HAVE A FOOTBALL SEASON IN 2020.
As many of you are aware, in late July the Kentucky High School Athletic Association ("KHSAA") an-nounced a timetable to return to fall sports and, in particular, football (with high school games starting Sept. 11). Shortly after the KHSAA announcement, we learned that the KHSAA announcement DOES NOT apply to youth sports. We confirmed this with the Parks and Recreation Departments for both the City of Owensboro and Daviess County, and the Green River District Health Department. Instead, youth sports still are governed by the State's Healthy at Work Guidance for Youth Sports and Athletic Activities (the "State Guidelines"). The State Guidelines may be viewed here.
As a youth football program, KFL falls under the "high touch, outdoor youth sports and athletic activities" category under the State Guidelines.
At this time, THE STATE OF KENTUCKY HAS NOT APPROVED ANY YOUTH FOOTBALL LEAGUE TO RETURN TO FULL CONTACT. Both the City and County Parks Departments have made clear that the State Guidelines PROHIBIT full contact football. Any league engaging in full contact at this time is in violation of the State Guidelines and subject to the jurisdiction of the Green River District Health Department and the Kentucky Labor Cabinet.
On August 27, KFL submitted its written Return to Play Proposal to the State. A copy of the KFL Return to Play Proposal may be viewed on the KFL website at www.kidsfootballleague.com. Until our Proposal is approved by the State, we must continue to abide by the State Guidelines, which we have been doing since practices began last month.
We maintain daily contact with state and local officials regarding approval of our Return to Play Proposal. We expect the KFL Return to Play Proposal will be approved by the State very soon.
Games will begin approximately three (3) weeks after the KFL Return to Play Proposal is approved by the State. Each school district (DCPS, OPS, Hancock County and McLean County) has authorized our use of their facilities for games this season. Our use of these facilities will be governed by the guidelines contained in the KFL Return to Play Proposal as well as any additional guidelines imposed by the local school districts.
In closing, we truly appreciate your patience for what surely will be a great 2020 football season. We will update you as soon as the KFL Return to Play Proposal is approved by the State, hopefully within the next few days.
Sincerely,
Sean S. Land, KFL President

All kids who played in KFL in 2019 will remain on the same team in 2020 unless they choose to enter the draft to switch teams. Either way is fine - it's up to the individual player. 2019 KFL players are guaranteed a roster spot in 2020 if they register before May 20. After this date, spots are not guaranteed due to the limited number of teams. The Flag Division will be one division comprised of 5,6 and 7 year-olds.
KFL players are not allowed to play in other leagues or on a middle school team. Sixth graders who register for KFL and then make their middle school team will get a refund.

Kids Football League continues to grow.
As KFL enters its sixth season this summer, the addition of two new participating counties is just another example of the organization's development over the last several years.
Hancock County and Breckinridge County teams will now play in KFL, joining Daviess, McLean and Muhlenberg counties on the gridiron.
